This is a second course in mathematics designed for students pursuing early childhood or elementary school teacher certification. Emphasis is placed on learning concepts and developing an understanding of mathematics as a body of connected ideas. The NCTM (National Course of Teachers of Mathematics) Principles and Standards for School Mathematics provides a framework for the selection of topics for this course. Topics are presented in a historical context and include proportional reasoning, measurement, geometry, geometric transformations, and data analysis. Prerequisite: Humanities or social science major, elementary/ early childhood major, or permission of instructor; MATH 101 or satisfactory score on the Mathematics Placement Test. 3 semester hours
