This course begins with a description of American foreign policy from the earliest days of the Republic up to the present time. Students then consider the interacting roles of the leading policy makers, including the president, Congress, State Department, and CIA. The final portion of the course involves the tools of foreign policy, such as covert action, diplomacy, and economic assistance, as well as pressing foreign policy problems of the day.
