Astudy of the rise of the novel in Great Britain from the 18th century to the 20th century, considering the change in the novel's cultural status during this time and its increasing popularity and social relevance. The course takes various critical approaches to novels by such authors as Burney, Austen, the Bront?s, Gaskell, Dickens, George Eliot, Hardy, and others.
