Dr. Lucas, Dr. Novack A study of various short texts, "contes,'" "nouvelles'' a nd "r? ?its'' from French-speaking authors from century to the present. Emphasis will be placed on the development of the genre as influenced by historical, social and gender issues. Authors selected include Voltaire, Maupassant, Mérimé, Colette, Mandiargues, Roy,Camus, Beauvoir, Hébert, Birago Diop, Sembene and others. Prerequisite: FREN-201 or permission of the instructor. Four hours per week. Four semester hours. (H, L) Note: This course will be offered in the spring term of even-numbered years and will alternate with FREN-252. All 300-level courses are offered in rotation.
