Dr. Ellison, Dr. Popescu A study of the principles of quantum mechanics applied to simple models (particle in the box, harmonic oscillator) and to atoms and molecules (quantum chemistry). The course will include statistical thermodynamics. Emphasizes the mathematical foundation and spectroscopic investigation of atomic and molecular properties. Prerequisite: CHEM-151 or 206; MATH-112; PHYS-112. Strongly recommended: MATH-211. Three hours per week. Three semester hours. (LS if taken with CHEM-310L.)
