An exploration of the unique and colorful political history and political culture of the American South. After considering the defining characteristics of the "old" southern politics, thecourse examines the most important features of the "new" southern politics and analyzes thechanging role of the South in national politics. This course will focus on the "three R's" osouthern politics: race republicanism, and realignment.
