Study of the question of evil in relation to belief in God (theodicy). Exploration of the seeming conflict between innocent suffering and faith in the goodness and omnipotence of God. Investigation of classic resources for the discussion of this issue (e.g., the Book of Job) along with contemporary theological reflection on modern instances of suffering from colonialism and slavery to the Holocaust, fascism, and Third World struggles.
