4 hours Advanced concepts and skills required for tune-up and troubleshooting procedures of diesel engines. Emphasis on the science of diagnostics with a common sense approach. After verifying customer complaints, student teams will use diagnostic equipment to test, troubleshoot, and repair electronic and auxiliary systems to include electronic controlled engines and other computer controlled systems. Preventive maintenance and tune-up techniques are also presented while stressing problem solving strategies. Service manuals and other research tools and resources are emphasized along with the development of technical vocabulary and specialized electronics math skills. Lab fee required. (SCANS 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11) Prerequisite: Consent of department chair or instructor.
