4 hours An in-depth study and practice of simulated emergency operations and hands-on live fire training exercises, incident command procedures, and combined operations using proper extinguishing methods. Emphasis on safety. Students will describe the general requirements of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards applicable to live fire; extinguish or control live fires while using hose streams and portable extinguishers safely and effectively; and operate within a command structure utilized by all participants. This is the capstone course for the Basic Fire Fighter Academy Level I certificate. (SCANS 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11) Prerequisite: Consent of department chair.
