(2-4) 3 hours An advanced course designed for analysis of typical part failures on Caterpillar engines. Emphasis on the science of diagnostics with a common sense approach. After verifying customer complaints, student teams will use test equipment to identify why failure occurred and if it could have been prevented. Service manuals and other research tools and resources are emphasized along with the development of technical vocabulary and specialized electronics math skills. Lab fee required. (SCANS 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11). Prerequisite: Consent of department chair.
