4 hours An introduction to the basic principles of electrical systems of diesel powered equipment with emphasis on starters, alternators, batteries, and regulators. The principles of the electrical, starting and charging systems of the Caterpillar engines will be covered. Students will learn the reading and interpretation of electrical schematics and the use of electrical test equipment. Current technology will be applied in the diagnosis and repair of various electrical system components. Lab fee required. (SCANS 1, 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 11) Prerequisite: Consent of department chair or instructor.
