3 hours Provides technical studies and practice in repair and maintenance of automotive transmissions, differentials, and related assemblies. Students will use service manuals to organize and diagnose transmission symptoms. Decision making and reasoning ability will be developed in lab exercises. The reading of technical materials is required. A study of automotive clutches, clutch operation devices, manual standard transmissions/transaxles, and differentials with emphasis on the diagnosis and repair of transmissions/transaxles and drive lines. May be taught with manufacturer specific instructions. Lab fee required. (SCANS 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11) Prerequisite: Consent of department chair or instructor.
