(3-3) 4 hours An introduction to the importance of the livestock industry in the United States, with emphasis in the state of Texas. Students will be required to read and comprehend extensive terminology including the study of the types and breeds of livestock and the market classes as well as grades of beef cattle, dairy cattle, sheep, swine and horses. Decisionmaking and reasoning skills will be used in determining principles involving heredity and breeding for improvement, judging, care and management. (SCANS 1, 6, 9) Prerequisite: None.
