An introductory organic chemistry and biochemistry course. Topics examined and discussed include saturated hydrocarbons (alkanes); unsaturated hydrocarbons (alkenes, alkynes, and aromatics); alcohols, phenols, thiols, and ethers; aldehydes and ketones; carboxylic acids and esters; amines and amides; carbohydrates; lipids; proteins; and enzymes. Prerequisites: SCIE 1203 College Chemistry I and SCIE 1201 College Chemistry I Laboratory or permission of instructor, and concurrent enrollment in SCIE 1211 College Chemistry II Laboratory.
