Develop an understanding of the heritage and foundations of church music from Old Testament times to the present. This course considers persons and social factors that have affected the formation of church music theory and practice. Students are helped to develop their own philosophy of church music. This course covers the organization, administration, supervision and direction of a church music program. Topics include: the role of the music minister, rehearsal techniques, the music library, the instrumental program, professional ethics, service planning, the music committee, church music facilities, public relations, time management, repertoire and musical productions. Prerequisite: MUSI 1123 Written Theory II or permission of instructor.
