Offered cooperatively with the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities.] [Modern Language] A course taught by native speakers of Arabic trained at the American University in Cairo. After a brief survey of the historical development of Arabic in the Middle Ease, both oral and written exercises form an integral part of the classroom program. This course also includes periods of total immersion in the language and aims to equip students to converse in Arabic both in and out of the classroom. Students also are introduced to the major genres of Arabic literature and read some of the most important authors. Lectures and discussions of literature take place in English, and are encouraged to consider how the Christian faith relates to themes encountered in Arabic literature.
