Description: 3L Students ONLY PREREQUISITE: Introduction to Federal Taxation (7034) Students will work 12 hours per week in four-hour blocks in the District Counsel's of the Internal Revenue Service under the direction of the District Counsel or another lawyer in his office. The Chief Counsel's office provides legal advice on a broad range of matters to the Office of the Commissioner of Internal Revenue, and represents her in the United States Tax Court. This is carried out in the field through the District Counsel's Offices. According to IRS guidelines, student externs in the District Counsel's Office may not be simultaneously employed in a job that results in a conflict of interest, an apparent or potential conflict of interest. The District Counsel has interpreted this to mean that the student may not work for another firm or organization (other than the law school) in any legal capacity during the internship. Under this policy, the student may not participate in the Tax clinic simultaneously with the externship.
