Second of a 3-quarter sequence designed for science and engineering majors, or students seeking careers in the health professions. Topics include organic synthesis and mechanistic approach applied to polar molecules; topics may include alcohols, ethers, organometallic compounds, aromatic systems, aldehydes and ketones. CHEM& 242 and CHEM& 252 replace CHEM 212 (beginning in Winter 2009). Concurrent enrollment in CHEM& 252 is required, or consent of Instructional Unit. Prerequisite: A grade of "C" or better in CHEM& 241 andCHEM& 251, or consent of Instructional Unit.
