Second of a 3-quarter sequence designed for science and engineering majors. Applications of the scientific method by correlating theory with experimental observation. Topics include properties of liquids and solids, solutions, equilibria, reaction kinetics, acid-base theories, ionic equilibria and an introduction to organic chemistry. CHEM& 142 and CHEM& 152 replace CHEM 132 (beginning in Winter 2009). Concurrent enrollment in CHEM& 152 is required, or consent of Instructional Unit. Prerequisite: A grade of "C" or better inCHEM& 141 and CHEM& 151. Formerly CHEM 132.
