Application of a systematic problem-solving process and critical thinking skills to provide comprehensive nursing care to diverse clients/families across the lifespan with complex healthcare needs including, but not limited to, complex childhood/ adolescent diseases, complicated perinatal care, acute mental illness, complex perioperative care, serious adult health problems and health issues related to aging. Emphasis on tertiary disease prevention, health maintenance/restoration and collaboration with members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team. Topics include the role of the nurse as client advocate and coordinator of care and applicable competencies in knowledge, judgment, skills, and professional values within a legal/ethical framework. Focus on utilization of the nursing process to evaluate, analyze nursing care provided, with modifications to care to better meet individual client needs. Prerequisites: RNSG 1219, RNSG 1229, RNSG 1360, RNSG 1461 (or RNSG 1361), RNSG 1523, and RNSG 2504. Corequisite: RNSG 2460, or consent of Program Director. 5 credit hours. ( W)
