Voice over IP (VoIP) integrates voice and data transmission and is quickly becoming an important factor in network communications. It promises lower operational costs, greater flexibility, and a variety of enhanced applications. VoIP Fundamentals provides an introduction to the basic concepts of this new technology. This course will contain an overview of basic telephony fundamentals, an introduction to packet voice technologies, and an overview of the Internet Protocol (IP) along with other protocols and standards that define VoIP networks. The class will conduct case studies to support the curriculum and familiarize the student with VoIP system operations. Lab required. 3 credit hours. ( W) 150 ( W) Indicates a Workforce Education (WECM) course.
