(writing intensive) What role does Shakespeare's writing play in popular culture today? How and why have modern filmmakers, artists and writers "reinterpreted" Shakespeare's plays? Students reaand discuss selected plays and examine various film adaptations of them. In addition to comparing different interpretations of Shakespeare's plays to the originals, the course investigates some of the larger issues surrounding Shakespeare and contemporary culture.
