Description: An introduction to literature and the methods of literary analysis founded upon close readings of texts from a variety of perspectives and including works from a range of genres and periods. The course is designed to instill within the student a sense of critical confidence through approaches of increasing complexity, from a mastery of the text to an understanding of the broader historical and philosophical forces in the literary work; the course thus addresses the interdisciplinary awarenesses central to the new Core.
