Description: Theory of analog and digital communications. Topics: double-and single-side-band analog communication systems and performance in additive noise, digital modulation and demodulation techniques, measure of information and channel capacity, source encoding, Mary signals and constellations, channel coding for reliable communications, intersymbol interference, equalization, fading multipath channels and diversity techniques. Applications: AM, FM and television broadcasting, facsimile transmission, compact disc system and mobile radio communications. Prerequisites: Undergraduate background in engineering probability and statistics and in principles of communications (equivalent to ECE 3720 and ECE 4790). 3.00credit(s) Restrictions: Must be enrolled in one of the following Levels: Graduate Engineering
