Formerly HIST-254) This course will examine the history of African-American in the United States, tracing their roots in the Old World and their experiences in America. Topics will include: the development of the institution of slavery in America; the slave experience; the American anti-slavery movement; the post-Civil War experience of African Americans; and the struggle for civil rights and social justice in America in the 20th Century. Prerequisite(s): Completion of ENGL-095 with a "C" or better or assessment at college-level reading and writing.
