The biology of pregnancy and childbirth, including the development of the fetus, morphological, physiological and psychological changes women experience during pregnancy and childbirth, and the co-evolutionary relationship between mothers and fetuses. Explores childbirth from cross-cultural and historical perspectives, and focuses on the ways American medicine has viewed and treated childbirth and recent changes in American childbirth practices.
