An examination of the historical origins of autobiographical writing in the European tradition, this class considers how individuals have imagined both themselves and their relationship to society. Through visual media (such as portraiture) and various written genres (from letters to trial records to essays), this class uses an interdisciplinary approach to introduce some important themes in European cultural history.
