It reviews the historical development of the prison, major features of inmate culture(s), the structure of staff/prisoner relationships, and its "success" as a site of reform and resocialization.Special topics may include cross-cultural comparisons, prison violence (including riots), prisoner health care (including AIDS, substance abuse, pregnancy, etc.), and the structure of careers in corrections.
