(Fall, Even-Numbered Years Only) The course will guide the student through the cultural exploration of the origin and development of theatre, dramatic literature and its structure and genres, dramatic theory, the principles of performance, and techniques of production (including costuming, scenic design, and company structure), from the beginning to about 1870. Western and non-western theatre history will be examined. Prerequisites: THE-114.
