Topics will include characteristics of microorganisms; types of microorganisms; the "chain of infection"; the actions of pathogensin the body; body's defenses against infection; immune process; resistance and susceptibility to infection; infection and the nursing process; handwashing and standard precautions for blood and body fl uid; and, purposes and types of isolation.
