Introduction to the principles, procedures and practice standards of the administrative medical assistant. Study includes: medical reception, telephone reception, appointment scheduling, patient information management, medical record content, quality improvement methods, purchasing office equipment, billing, collecting, medical office accounting, banking procedures, office management, coordination of meetings, and making travel arrangements. The course involves prioritizing work, time management and working as a team member on team projects. Concepts of administrative medical assisting are presented in the class and students will have the opportunity to demonstrate mastery of the competencies. Keyboarding skills recommended. Completion of or concurrent enrollment in BTEC 110 required or consent of Instructional Unit. [GE]
