This course is an exploration of the ever enlarging scholarship in the new interdisciplinary field of children's studies. It will provide the opportunity for students to engage in the burgeoning international discourse on childhood and children using classic, contemporary and controversial bodies of knowledge. Consideration of the history of childhood and the contemporary realities of childhood through research in sociology, human rights, cultural studies as well as the visual media (painting, prints, photography and film) will inform the student. Offered 2008-2009.
