A course in basic and applied forest ecology, with particular emphasis on forest communities, ecosystems, and landscapes. Topics include forest environments, tree physiology and growth, ecosystem productivity, biogeochemistry, disturbance regimes, regeneration processes, and the history of eastern North American forests. The laboratory includes local field trips, multi-week projects, and a voluntary trip to New England over fall break. Prerequisites: BIO 110, BIO 220, and permission of the instructor.
