Designed to introduce students to both the history and the processes involved in hand papermaking. Basic techniques for pulling sheets of paper, designing books, building plaster molds, casting pulp positives, and freehand building will be explored. The work of visual artists working in the medium will be examined and discussed. Students design their own final projects that have the potential for interfacing with a variety of other academic disciplines.
