Secrets-concealed events, qualities, realities-personal, social, national. The course will examineGerman literary texts from different eras to explore how secrets function. Emphasis will fall on the management of cultural and national secrecy in the past century and the political negotiations over the rights and responsibilities to remove it. (Possible texts in clue the Legend of Siegfried, the Marquise of O, The Jew's Beech Tree, Blonde Eckbert, The Nasty Girl, The Reader, The Lives of Others, Bye Bye Lenin). Same as LIT 173. Zorach
