Centered on contemporary France from the beginning of the Fifth Republic in 1958 to the present, this course examines the institutions and events which have shaped contemporary French society. Topics covered include social structures, economic situation, politics, immigration, education, the arts, everyday life, traditions, and the French mindset. Group work, films, and computer-based projects using Internet resources are featured. This course may include a service-learning component in which students teach French in local schools.
