Survey of Latin America from pre-Conquest times to the present. First semester begins with historical backgrounds of indigenous societies as well as Spain and Portugal before 1492, followed by examination of the conquest and colonial period through independence. Second semester focuses on comparative history and political economy, U.S.-Latin American relations, and cultural forces.
