Description:
Cognitive neuroscience explores the relations between neural systems and cognition. This course will provide an introduction to some theoretical issues in cognitive neuroscience (e.g. what mental representations are; whether cognitive functions can be localized in the brain; whether consciousness can be studied scientifically), as well as an in-depth look at the neural bases of memory, language and motor control. We will also learn about technologies like MRI, EEG, direct neural recording; and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), and what these techniques do (and don't) tell us about the neural underpinnings of cognition.
