When and why do movements occur Who joins, supports, remains in, and drops out of movements How are movements organized and how are they related to both the state and media Topics include resource mobilization, political processes, ideologies and framing; state facilitation and repression; recruitment; and social movement outcomes. Movements studied include: New Left; civil, women's, and gay rights; white supremacist, labor, environmental and men'smovements. Prerequisite: SOC 100. Gallagher
