This course examines connections between culture and mathematics. It concentrates on the mathematics found in ancient, non-literate, and non-Western cultures, especially traditional African cultures and pre-Columbian civilizations. Topics include number concepts; recordkeeping, including calendars; games, geometry, and symmetry.
