This course explores Japanese animation (Anime) from its roots in Western science fiction and the Japanese art historical tradition, to its impact on modern society and contemporary art around the world. Beginning with films (like Godzilla) that set the stage for the introduction of Anime in the early 1960s, the course traces the development of this world-wide phenomenon to the present day.
