This course is designed to give students an overview of mass media theory and research rooted in a number of ideological perspectives of society. Topics include the rise of mass communications, the audience, media effects, news ideologies, the sponsor, mass media politics, and new communications technologies. The goal is to provide detailed understanding of the social, cultural, economic, organizational, and political forces that have shaped our contemporary mass media. Prerequisite: A&S 102 or 103, or permission of instructor Staff
