Functional analysis of energy balance in vertebrate animal models. Digestion, respiration, circulation, and excretion, across aquatic and terrestrial vertebrates. Homeostatic mechanisms of salt, water, and gas exchange. Ionotropic and metabetropic signal transduction. Hormonal and electrical cellular communication among muscles, glands, and neurons. Sensory systems, movement and reproduction. Physiological adaptations to extreme environments. When offered for 4 credits, the course includes one laboratory meeting per week. Prerequisite: BIOS 120.
