This seminar emphasizes theory and research on motivational approaches to social psychology. We will focus on the ways in which goals, motives, and needs guide behavior. We will explore such key issues as the nature of achievement, well-being, self-regulation and self-control; emotions, values, and belief-protection as sources of social action; and the role of motivated cognition in understanding the self and others.
