This course introduces students to aseptic techniques for working with microbiological cultures and mammalian cells. Lecture topics include the origins and maintenance of commonly used cell lines, considerations for working with potentially hazardous cultures, basic requirements for cell cultures, types of selective and specialized media, basic concepts of mammalian cell fermentation, large-scale fermentation, and an introduction to downstream processing of biologics.
