This course covers selected topics in organic and biochemistry including organic functional groups; organic reactions; intermolecular forces; structure and function of carbohydrates; lipids and proteins; enzymes; common metabolic pathways; causes and effects of arteriosclerosis; classes of drugs; actions and metabolism of drugs; and interferences and side effects of drugs. Additional topics may include hormone action, membrane properties, molecular immunology, neurotransmitters, muscle contractions and blood clotting. Prerequisite: CHEM& 121 (formerly CHEM 161) or one year of high school chemistry within the last five years with a 2.0 GPA or better and enrolled in the invasive or noninvasive cardiovascular technology program.
