o First of a two-quarter series; a survey of basic principles of biochemistry and molecular biology, emphasizing broad understanding of chemical events in living systems in terms of metabolism and structure-function relationships of biologically important molecules. Designed for students majoring in chemistry or biochemistry and for students interested in careers in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy or medical technology. Prereq: CHEM& 243 with a grade of 2.0 or better AND one quarter collge biology, either BIOL& 160 (formerly BIO 101) or BIOL& 211 (fromerly BIO 201.) Transfer class.
