3 credits Concentration Option Students read from the works of 4 to 5 well-known American writers who visit the class to discuss their work. Although topics of discussion will vary according to the writers being studied, consideration will be given to such matters as canonicity, the role of the writer in the broader culture, literary form, theme as it evolves over the course of an author's career, and the business of publishing.
