Survey focusing on the development of the literature of Spanish America from the beginning of the twentieth century to the present. The works will be discussed within the cultural, historical and literary context of the period under study. At the same time there will be special attention to the discussion, understanding and application of techniques for literary analysis. by a discussion of the relevant historical background. Three hours credit. Offered alternate years in spring. Prerequisites: SPN 213 with a grade of C or better, and SPN 289 or 301.
