An introduction to the study of the theories and practices of advertising and public relations through an analysis of the rhetorical dimension of those fields. The course provides hands-on work to encourage the student's discovery of the relationship between current theory and practice. Examination of case studies as well as extensive work in the writing, issues of ethics and protocol, and hands-on skill in producing video news stories. Three hours credit. Pre- or co-requisites: COM 243 and 253 or permission of the instructor.
